Phacoemulsification with IOL (Rigid Lens)
Day
Surgery Procedure
PACKAGE CODE: Phaco Rigid
Effective Date: October 25, 2007
Summary:
This is a routine out-patient Phacoemulsification with IOL (Rigid Lens)
Implantation Package.
Phacoemulsification is an advanced technique of cataract extraction. It is also
known as small-incision cataract surgery. Others call it the "no-needle,
no-stitch" technique. After application of a local anesthetic, your doctor makes
a small incision on the side of the cornea, the clear, dome-shaped
surface that covers the front of the eye. The doctor then inserts a tiny probe
into the eye. This device emits ultrasound waves that soften and break up the
cloudy center of the lens so it can be removed by suction. A small rigid lens is
then inserted into the eye. Most cataract surgery today is done by phaco. |
